Note modeplay 1 channel & adjust param on another - How?

Post by simplemusic » Fri Apr 15, 2016 9:12 pm

I am slowly making all the little adjustments to my set-up and workflow for my live set-up now that I have Push2 (and generally love the new interface). One thing I have found that is a bit tricky, is I seem to have lost the ability to be playing on one channel, and adjust the parameters (effects devices on another) when in Note mode.

I have channels 6,7,8 set-up as midi channels for live playing of sounds, either via midi keyboard or in note mode on Push2. While using the midi keyboard, I stay in session mode and can then have a channel armed and play live keys, or record into clips. At the same time I can be tweaking effect parameters on any of my 1-8 tracks, by either pressing the channel select button for any other channel (button below the display), or via mapped button on my Nocturn (mapped to select the Audio effect rack on each track).

However, when in note mode this is no longer possible. Now I cannot adjust parameters on another channel while playing a different one. When selecting the other channel, the input focus (and arming) switches to the other channel.

Any ideas if there is a workaround for this? It would be really usedful to be note mode, be live-jamming a riff on a synth, but then also be able to be tweaking the effect parameters on another channel (or the master)

You can lock Push's controls to a device.

You can only lock with a mouse though. Right click the title bar of the device and choose which control surface to lock it to.

But if you select different channels while playing, it will still always interrupt your note input playing.

+1.

Interim Solution ....
In Preferences - Look/Feel -
Leave
Multiple Plugin Windows ON
Auto-Hide Plugin Windows OFF
Auto-Open Plugin Custom Editor - ON

Open Plugin Window you want to fiddle with while Note-Mode-ing on a different track.

I just fiddled-dee-deed with Soundtoys Echoboy plugin on a Return Track whilst pressing Note Mode pads and activating notes on an instance of Serum.

You can also leave MULTIPLE plugin windows open this way to not be limited by just one.

Hope this helps. --- me Bleery-eyed

Thanks @yur2die4 and @annadyne, but neither of those really help me with a live situation - I cannot have my Nocture controller permanently locked to a device as I need it to be able to control the standard effect rack I have on each track.

I was not able to recreate @annadyne solution, as soon as you either select the return track, or the track you want to play the notes on, the focus changes, eliminating the ability to use both at the same time.

You need to both set Select On Launch to off in Record Warp Launch and use the blue hand on the device. Still not very reliable for performance situations, but somewhat usable. It's also confusing if you forget to turn off the blue hand focus.

No this turns out to be incomplete info. Forget "blue hand". That's always visible to indicate focus in the Live GUI.
What you need is to lock the device to the Push. Then you can move freely and the 8 parameters last visible will stay. The Record Warp Launch setting won't affect this actually so I was wrong there.

Thanks @Stomkraft - I'll have a play.

Also stumbled on the MAP8 Max4Live device, which looks like it might give me the functionality I'm looking for.
