well today i wanted to setup a new default preset for the new compressor.
well how do i transform my old compressor settings?
im looking on the screen and searching for the moduls? (FF1, FF2 and FB)? where are these and why not kept? do i miss something?
and where is the
Opto Mode?
i always used:
and now im looking at this?
any ideas?
EDIT: ok i found the opto mode - you can get this by saving an old compressor preset in v8. now my question at ableton why not make this available as direct option in the new compressor? if anyone needs this preset - give me shout ill upload it.
here is the preset - just copy it to the core library and then set it as default preset.

^^THANK YOU FOR THIS. I had been looking everywhere for how to get my beloved FF1 back.
For those doing this- save to your Core Library folder, and double click in a windows explorer window, and it'll open in Ableton. Then hit 'save' and it will save to your presets folder.
I couldn't figure out how to save it as my default setting... anyone?

Right click on compressor > 'Save as Default Preset'

kinda stupid and lame that you can not do that (choose opto mode) if you are not owning previous v8 library or you need to monitor some forum in order to be able ti find opto mode..

just get a v8 version and save it somewhere - you dont need to have a v8 library for that - because ableton will make a new one.

Guys, from Live 8's manual:
"Opto mode results in a non-linear release curve. Specically, the release behavior is faster initially, and slows down as the gain reduc- tion approaches zero."
From Live 9's manual:
"In addition to these modes, Compressor can be switched between two envelope follower shapes that offer further options for how the device measures and responds to signal levels. In linear (Lin) mode, the speed of the compression response is determined entirely by the Attack and Release values. In logarithmic (Log) mode, sharply compressed peaks will have a faster release time than less compressed material."
So, to get the Opto style envelope release from Live 8 with the new Compressor just set the Envelope drop down to Log.
I'm not sure why they got rid of the FF1/FF2/FB selections but I'm guessing it has something to do with the improved algorithms also mentioned in Live 9's manual.

They either need to fix the new comp or allow everyone to use the old modes. Its sad when you watch tutorial videos (from instruction houses too, not random YT vids) for live 9 and the instructors tell you to go hunt down the live8 compressor preset so you can access FF1 since the new comp sucks so much for sidechaining dance music. You'll almost always get pops
I own live8 and I still had to go hunt down the preset on the beta forums since during the live 9 beta I had to remove all my libraries, so at that point I lost any live 8 presets and there was no point re-installing the whole thing

Ok, don't make dance music! Simple!
Sorry, I couldn't resist that one!

Bit of a necro post but I've been tearing my hear out re: popping on side chain compression in 9 and happened across this post today.
THANK YOU!

I simply use another compressor with side-chaining. Main reason you get pops is because of too fast attack times and or badly timed releases. That said, even faster third party compressors do not exhibit this problem. Go figure.
