Send MIDI cc data from Push 2 to Logic Pro

Post by Temas1 » Wed Aug 10, 2016 8:55 am

Hi there. Sorry if this has been covered before. Couldn't see any in depth explanation in the manual.

I've worked out how to send MIDI note on / off from the Push 2 pads to Logic Pro via an IAC bus without being in User Mode, but when I turn the encoders I only get a cc signal of either 1 or 127, nothing in between. When monitoring the incoming MIDI in Logic Pro, if I turn the knob left I get a 1, if I turn right I get 127.

Does anyone know if there is a way to send cc data from Push 2's encoders to Logic Pro?

Thanks

What does it send when you are not turning?

When you map that encoder in Live, what kind of midi control does it use? Absolute? Relative?

"What does it send when you are not turning?"
In Logic, I am looking at the environment window and I am monitoring the MIDI input from Push 2 Live Port. When no encoder is turned I get no signal. When I turn Push's encoder 1 to the right the monitor says C-2 127, then 71 1, then it will keep repeating 71 1 until I stop rotating the encoder and then C-2 0 when I stop turning. If I turn the encoder left it is the same except it says 71 127 while it is being turned. If I turn encoder 3 it will say D-2 & 73, encoder 5 is E-2 75, encoder 6 is F-2 76, etc, etc.

This is with MIDI coming from Push 2's Live Port. So far I haven't managed to successfully send the encoders' data through the IAC bus Logic, which is probably what is needed.

When I enter MIDI mapping and all the assignable parameters turn blue, things are automatically mapped but they are not listed in the MIDI Mappings panel and I have not yet found how to change the setting form Absolute to Relative. Double Clicking does nothing. I if I map a knob to an encoder and then right click it says "No command available"

The encoders just don't seem to do anything. Say for example I open Omnisphere plugin. I right-click a knob and select MIDI CC Learn, I turn the encoder and nothing happens. But Omnisphere will learn if I turn knobs of other MIDI controllers. And if I select an assignable parameter I can map knobs from other controllers to those parameters. But I still can't see how to get the relative /absolute option up.

Also, if I press Configure and then click on one of Omnisphere's knobs it does nothing. [ Edit - Ok, I have to click enable host automation every time I select a new knob to control. ]

In order to midi map in Live, you need to go into User Mode on Push.
