Automate Keyboard Controller Mod Wheel in Arrangement View

I checked a few threads on recording automation data for an existing MIDI/audio clip in arrangement view. Maybe I am missing something obvious. Basically, as I understand it in order to record automation data in this context, one simply needs to do the following:

• Disarm the arrangement track
• Enable the automation arm
• Enable the record-enable button in the transport bar

Generally, I am able to record automation data. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to record CC01 automation data when I use my keyboard controller's modulation wheel/lever. There is probably a simple solution to this problem.

Any suggestions?
