Plugins won't play below B1

Post by pfitzsimons » Fri Sep 09, 2016 10:47 pm

I'm having trouble finding a bass plugin that works because all the plugins I try, including Sampletank, Kontakt, and TriplePlay will not play below B1 on my MIDI guitar. I've been limited to the Ableton bass sounds in order to have full range on the instrument, and I'm just not getting the sound I need for this project. Stumped. Any ideas?

That doesn't sound right unless you mean the patch itself have no notes below B1, which is possible. I don't use either (didn't install Kontakt) but I seriously doubt Kontakt can't play notes below B1. Or any synth really, unless it's a sampler and the patch has no lower notes laid out.

I like FM8 for electric bass type of sounds myself, but takes some time to get into if you're not versed in FM programming.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've played with the FM settings a bit, just haven't gotten the relatively natural electric bass guitar tone that I'm going for with this patch. The plugins I've mentioned have something much closer to my ear. Just weird that it's consistent for each and every plugin that there's no signal beneath B1, while the FM - or other Ableton patches - work just fine.

In Native Instruments FM8? I wouldn't say you can get totally natural electric bass sounds, but very playable sounds that react to nuances in articulation in a way that works really well in a mix.

Have you actually looked at the Kontakt patch to investigate how it's laid out? What's the frequency of the B1 if you measure it with Tuner with one of those patches?
