Ableton is giving me a funky authorization

Post by popmuzik92 » Sun Oct 02, 2016 3:15 am

Its mostly authorized, the issue though is when I open a session someone else sent me that is using "amp". Im using live 9 standard and it works fine for most of my almost all of my sessions, but if I open one that had the AMP plugin, then it says im not using an authorized version of live. This doesnt make any sense. Ive deleted all live files on my computer and reinstalled it but no bueno.

Amp is only available in Ableton Suite. If you have the Standard version, you will keep getting this message because your version of Live is not compatible with the project.

You'd have to buy Suite.

A workflow-based solution (recommended):
You can ask the person to freeze/flatten the track(s) using Amp and send the set/wave back again. That person can create a rack/track and import it on her/his end when needed too.

A technical solution:
As a last resort you could try moving Amp and Cabinet away from Resources\Devices in your Live installation folder. Be aware that is a non conventional thing.

Or, if you can do without the Amp plugin...

Send the Live Set (just the .als file - no samples needed) back to your friend who has Suite, get him to remove the Amp plugin, save the set, and send it back to you.

If that's not possible, PM me a link to the Live Set, I'll pull the Amp plugin, and send it back to you. I have Live Suite 9.6

Thats not a bad idea, the only issue though, is that I have so many sessions that could be using plugins like amp. Im not sure all the plugins that are suite only but I have several hundred sessions that i would have to go through to see if they're using plugins from Suite

Ah. Not wanting to sound hard-nosed... if you have hundreds of sessions that might use Suite plugins, wouldn't it be easier to just buy Suite?

It would be easier but i just spent a bunch for standard, pro tools, UAD apollo, monitors, vocalign, melodyne, and autotune. I dont need what Suite has to offer, and it doesnt really makes much sense to me why if you opened a session using suite plugins in standard, those plugins would simply be disabled as "unavailble" and not screw over the whole session

Fair point. If you want to send me a bunch of sessions to disable certain plugins - the offer still stands.

i totally agree that devices not in Standard should just be ignored just as with plug-ins and protected samples.

What you can do is of course just open a new blank project and import all the other tracks. You'll lose the returns though.
