Affordable 303 Emulation-Vst for Mac
Affordable 303 Emulation-Vst for Mac
Hello everyone.
I am looking for an affordable 303 vst.
By affordable i mean anything that is not a Audiorealism Bassline (140 euros? seriously?)
Nor do i mean Phoscyon which is 60 euros + too complicated.
A reliable 32bit to 64bit Bridger in order to use "older" 32 bit emulations like the Muon Bassline (which sounds fantastic and costs 20 euros) is 100 Dollars....
I tried the Evilfish by Sonic Faction. Sounds cool but much too complicated for what i need it.
Also when you load presets and fool around the next time you load a preset it doesn`t sound the same
so basically some changes don`t reset when loading a new preset which i find very weird ....
i think many miss the point when emulating an 303 by making it a lot more-too much "flexible" because in the software domain it is easy to do.
Only downside is that the real magic of the original 303 was that it was so restricted that you immediately got the results you where imagining.
Something like the Muon Bassline would be superb, only problem is that it comes only in 32 bit. I need 64.
I tried using 32bit Vst`s with a affordable Bridger but found the experience catastrophic in my setup and don`t want to buy a 100 dollar bridger just to use it with one plugin
Any ideas? The only ones i can find are for Windows...
Would much appreciate any information

Update:
Tried the Evilfish out a bit. The first project i started in Ableton caused Live to crash.
Recall history didn`t save all the work i did. It really is VERY annoying.
Now reopened the project and it takes ages. Probably gonna crash again.
El capitan, macbook pro 2.3 ghz quad 2011 Live 9.7
Go figure.

My "Solution" is just switching the objective and simply put means just ignoring the 303 Grail in my mind, and the products labelled something with a 303 implied, and exploring the great "Analogue" synths there are instead. At the moment those are Reaktor synths like Monark as well as u-he synths. Does my bass lines sound like the 303? I don't really care. All I care about is that the bass line sounds the way I want it. To me what you do with it is what it's all about. Experimentation is key.
Maybe this is no help for you, but it's an alternative explorative approach until you happen to find the tool you need.

Xoxboxes sound pretty good to my ears. Which are fucked of course.

You can build a nice emulation in operator. Some youtube videos will get you halfway there.

How is Phoscyon too complicated? Just ignore the arp and overdrive and it's pretty much a 1:1 emulation (in terms of interface).
Re: Affordable 303 Emulation-Vst for Mac
here - download one of my many, many version of a 303 rack, complete with an acid sequence
it's just an Operator and a few tweaks to how it responds to match that of the actual 303. (accent is split into two discrete layers of control. accent affects filter decay length, accent applies aux env to resonance, etc.)
http://angstromnoises.com/theburn/
obviously it's not a recreation, it's just somewhat similar in nature.

Thank you man. That is a very sweet sounding thing you build. I much appreciate it!

Well what can i say. When i started using it i needed a lot of time until i got behind the way it works. Mainly the step sequencer.
Also when i open it my first feeling is always "wow thats a lot of information and knobs for a 303".
I am not saying that every 303 emulation has to look exactly like a 303 but the Phoscyon simply has too many knobs and a too small GUI
While for example using the "Bassline" ios app by Markus Waldboth i was programing Sequences in 5 minutes after i first opened it.
The Phoscyon has not become my go to synth. Thats the truth. It sounds very good and all no complaints there.
But every now and then a piece of software or a hardware device gets washed away over time. And Phoscyon is not my thing.
It`s just a personal taste thing. If i could i would sell it but in software the money you get for "used" things is almost not worth the fuzz.
I wanted something 303-ish with not too many knobs that i can map to 2-3 midi controller knobs and be done with it.
There are 1000 other synths if i want more options. The 303 i wanted in order to restrain me a bit in my workflow. Not give me 2016 additions and possibilities.
Thats why Phoscyon ..... well you can have it if you want

In no way is the 303 a Grail of any kind and in any way for me. I also am not an Analog vs Digital etc etc fan. I really don`t care if it`s digital, analog or made out of wood.
The reason i was looking for a 303 and a simple version of it was because at the moment that i was looking for it i wanted the exact opposite of what you are
suggesting. Experimentation and switching objectives is something i do 99,9% of the time. Well in this case i wanted the 0,1%.
I am aware that there are many ways to get to a result but sometimes you just want to walk on a marked road so you have time to think about
other things without getting distracted by bumps you didn`t expect
But i get what you wanted to say and thank you that you took the time

I think you did not read my post?
145 euros? Seriously? you better love it. Cause it`s totally not worth this amount of money. Sorry but no way in this lifetime anyone convinces me that the Audiorealism is worth it`s money.
for twice as much you can get a fully equiped DAW like Bitwig.

The Audiorealism is 95 euro's, the price you're quoting is for a bundle with other stuff.
Now I get that what's "affordable" is different from person to person, but 95,- is a pretty regular price for a synth plugin. It's not the cheapest, but it's also not the most expensive. Whether it's "worth it" is again subjective. You asked for a good and affordable (not free) 303 emulation. In 64bits. The Audiorealism and the D16 ones are AFAIK considered the go-to plugins if you want that authentic 303 sound. A real 303 is gonna set you back a hell of a lot more. If you are willing to compromise on authenticity there are plenty of other "emulations" or things that sort of do a 303-ish sound. You've already mentioned a bunch yourself. I'm not sure what more you are expecting from people here. You seem to want to have your cake and eat it too.

Phoscyon is 35 euro's now. I like it more than any other 303 emulation.
It's not complicated, you just have to focus on the row with the rotary encoders. Ignore all other crap.
Good luck finding a better alternative. Or, get your hands dirty with operator.
