MIDI pitch bend data loss

Post by Nicklaus Rohrbach » Thu Nov 10, 2016 3:26 pm

Hi, I have a problem with the MIDI going out of Live.
I play a MIDI keyboard to control a hardware Synth through LIVE, and the pitch ben is really brutal, I hear a sudden and big change in pitch instead of the smooth glide I'm used to... As if only a few datas were passed on...

-picture up : signal recorded from the interface output
-picture down : signal recorded from my keyboard (identical to the one recorded by live)

knowing that
-If i play to a virtual iunstrument in Live, the bend is as it should
-when recorded into Live, the enveloppe is correct
-I dont have this trouble with other softwares (USINE, Cubase)

so I assume the problem is with LIVE sending MIDI ;(
or maybe a communication issue between my inteface (NI Komplete audio 6) and LIVE...
or maybe a vicious parameter somewhere (I hope)

thanks for your help !!

' "ThinningAggressiveness"
When recording automation data, Live smoothes the recorded data with a pre-defined value. The default value is = 0.45

Higher value = more breakpoints eliminated.

Example: -ThinningAggressiveness=0.1" '
Options.txt file for Live
Make some music!

Thanks for the tip ! I'll remember that.
But the recorded automation is fine... I only get the the bad thinning when sending them to MIDI output.

Any other idea ?

I'm not getting this so I don't think it's inherent to Live. Not sure how much that helps.......

Well timday, it helps in the extend that it seems to blame the compliance between soundcard and Live (in my setup)...

I have the exact same problem that you describe. Been having this ever since I started using Live. I did a few internet searches for this problem but came up with sh.t. This time, though, I found this thread and finally someone else who has the same problem.

Most of the time now I use a workaround by not using Live but Renoise, which does route the midi pitch bend without a problem from my controller to my synth engine. But obviously I would like to use Live for this from time to time, since Renoise does not record audio.

I have tried all the mentioned Options.txt stuff without result.

This is my setup:
Input: Roland A-800 PRO or Arturia Keystep (via USB) or sometimes Nord Lead 4 keyboard (via MIDI IN in sound card)
Sound card: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20.
PC: Windows 7 64bit. With enough ram and stuff. I play games too :p
Output: Sometimes my Roland Fantom XR (via USB) sometimes my Korg Radias (via USB).

Now that I made this list, I think I have not tried the MIDI OUT on my focusrite to see if that works, maybe I'll give that a shot.

But if you read between the lines, I think we can rule out the sound-card issue, since I use a lot of USB connections. For instance from the Roland A-800 pro via USB to the Fantom XR via USB. No sound card in that chain there..

Also since Renoise works perfectly, I know it's not my hardware. It's Live. And this should be listed as a bug IMHO.

If you find out anything about this problem, please post it here. Most appreciated!
