Can't MIDI control while running other DAW

Hi there. I have Reason rewired into a basic recording DAW. I also have a crappy DAW called Renoise rewired into that recording DAW.

I can midi control both Reason and Renoise simultaneously.

The problem arises when l open Ableton, which is not for rewiring. I open it as an independent DAW and none of the MIDI controllers set specifically for Ableton, in fact no MIDI controllers except my Worlde EasyControl, will control Ableton.

OK so l close down Renoise (on a hunch). Then, l close down Ableton and relaunch Ableton, et voila, all of the controllers for Ableton work.

OK so l slyly open Renoise into its rewire setup, and none of the MIDI controllers designated for Renoise work.

Ok so l close down Ableton and Renoise, and relaunch Renoise, et voila, all of the MIDI controllers designated for Renoise work.

In both instances, l am able to control Reason while its rewired into my recording DAW.


So, it looks a lot like Ableton and Renoise are preventing each other - and no other DAW e.g. Reason - from being MIDI controlled. Any idea what gives?
