Sampler/Simpler multisample workflow

Post by chapelier fou » Fri Jan 06, 2017 4:55 pm

Let's say i just sample every single note of an instrument. Chromatically every note across 5 octaves.
What the best workflow to map each sample to each key ?
Isn't there a one-click method ?

i got it.
Place all notes to the lowest position. Stretch them to the highest. Then "spread notes equally".
Damn. It was worth trying.

And now, how to set a sustain loop for ALL the samples ?...

Copy to siblings in Simpler? Thinking aloud here. Later.

You mean the sample loop, do you?

Later:

"Fastest" way I could find to get identical sustain loops in Sampler would be to set it properly with one sample, duplicate it, then replace the sample. Typically this is not something you want. I wonder if Sampler reads externally set loop points, as set in apps like Loop Editor? It should, no? The same way in Simpler, as you'd have to go via Sampler to get multi-samples in there, unless you use multiple Simplers. Can't see why.

Thanks.
Indeed, i was looking for a "copy to siblings" or something like this, but there is no such thing in sampler.
Still struggling to understand how to do this.

I think using an externally set sustain loop would be the best. Haven't verified Sampler can read them though. Stupid if it can't.

What you can do is to, before having made any other changes to the loop, make sure all samples are selected in "Zone" and then change the loop start, the release loop and the respective cross fades. this will be the same for all selected. Works the same for changing root note (ALT-drag in Zone).

Then you will have to go into every singular sample and set the loop end. The reason for this is that, unless all the samples have the exact same length (in samples I assume), then Live can't use a value shared between all samples. This is also the reason you can't make changes before all these operations as that would mean each sample would get unique properties. It would of course be better if Live allowed for different values to be changed by the same amount in percentages calculated on the longest of the samples, but this is not what Ableton have chosen so far.

It would appear Sampler can't read these. BAAAH!
