I am having the weirdest problem
At the moment I am experiencing an intermittent problem with Ableton Live in that the metronome, from time to time starts firing irregularly.
I have a pretty standard DJ setup with everything playing in 4/4 time
Suddenly it starts playing 5/4 beats instead of 4/4.
The Time signature denominator stays on 4/4 but in stead of tick, tock, tock, tock it goes tick, (pause), tock, tock, tock)

It seems to be linked to a particular set and (even odder) to particular tracks.
PLEASE HELP Ableton metronome firing irregularly
Re: PLEASE HELP Ableton metronome firing irregularly
That doesn't sound like a 5/4, but as something out of sync.
Are you using outboard sending Midi Sync, or is there something weird in your MIDI sync preferences?

You are absolutely right. Looking at the dots of the mmetronome, it looks as if something is causing it to retrigger halfway between two beatsalbieg wrote:That doesn't sound like a 5/4, but as something out of sync.
Absolutely not.albieg wrote:

But I have created a new live set and loaded all tracks afresh, and the problem has gone away.
For now.
I was doing a lot of work midi mapping my dj controller and I might have mapped it to Link or something like that. I will investigate later & report.

Not sure if you still have this issue or if it’s a problem ? But I had something very similar which was a pain for a long time trying to figure out but an incredibly easy fix.. essentially the same issue as yourself In getting the extra downbeat supposedly intermittently , turns out in my arrangement session , there was a 4 bar loop that started on bar 68 , so essentially everything ran perfectly until bar 68 and then all hell broke loose , was a simple fix of turning off the arrangement view loop which there is a button for on the top right of the screen along with the global automation record switch. Apologies I’m not great at explaining things but I happened to come across a similar issue recently and this was one of few posts about metrenome irregularity so I hope it may help for anyone in the future !
I swear ableton is fun
