Recording Singer in Arragement View

Post by 73grad » Fri Feb 03, 2017 1:47 am

Hi!

Well - I am just moving from Cubase to Ableton cause it is sooo much cooler and faster in creating great songs.

My question:
In Cubase I can:
Turn off the grid to chop the audio in every millisecond.
e.g. I took a take but only want to use some parts of it that were great sung. E.g. on a verse the first part and the last one.
How do I handle this in Ableton? In cubase I take the "scissors" and cut out the first and the last part - without any grid snapping.
I can also move the audio-file without any grid so if for example a singer is lightly offbeat I can just slide the start of the audio to the perfect point until it grooves and is in time.

Afterwards I record a 2nd "vocal take" of the same verse on a 2nd audio track. I cut the parts that she sung perfect. Then I draw those parts to the audio track where the singer sang the 1st and last part perfect - to have the same effects on the voice. Sometime I cut audio vocals word by word.
Can this also be realised in Ableton?

Could someone PLEASE explain me in detail how this is done in Ableton?

thank you so much for your answer in advance!

Ok - sorry - I found it! For those who don`t know how to cut audio: Click directly in the in the arragement view WAVEFORM and press cmd+e .
right-click in the small darkgrey line on the top and the choose: fixed grid: off. The you can cut anywhere you like.
To deactivate a clip - even AUDIO! you just need to press the "0" on your keyboard. That easy.

Ableton - you are just gr8!
