Which mode to use with Vocals?

Hey guys,

Qucik question: Which Warp mode should I use when Warpping vocals? I would assume the Tones Mode but I just thought I'd ask.

Personally speaking, use the one that sounds the best.

I try each of the warp modes on pretty much every loop/sample I use, and see which works best for that particular sound.

If you wanna get realistic sounding vocals try to stay away from warping. From my experience it's really hard to get them sounding natural even with "tones" or "complex".

But if you're going for that electronic, tweaked, experimental sound - warp away!

Basically I'm using Live for Remixing my bands older stuff....So taking a acapella and placing it on a new instrumental. I've heard that Live is really good for this( aside from the electronic sound but for natural sounding vocals). I did a little remix last night and IMO it sounds good, pretty natural, I just need to get a better sense of how to fit the warps into the pockets of the track.

Also consider setting the vocal track as master - that way the backing track can vary speed to match the original vocal performance.

i suppose repitch would be the best to use, as long as you don't need to change tempo or adjust warp markers

Try beats set to transient. You can get some interesting effects.

If I'm not changing the tempo I simply use beats mode and cut the recording into clips that I place where I want them. For changing the tempo I'd go outside Live to Melodyne 4 Essentials ($99), Waves Soundsshifter ($149, currently on sale at $29*) or similar.

I must confess though I like tampering with my own audio recordings inside Live. It sounds unnatural and I like that.
