getting Waves to work in Live 9.7.1

Post by BerlinGoodMan » Tue Feb 28, 2017 4:57 pm

:?

Hi all!

I've read about this on the forum, but I couldn't find a recent thread.

I just updated to the latest version of Live (9.7.1), and all my Waves plug ins crash Live. I know that Live doesn't support AU Waves, but mine are VST.

I've toggled the VST and Custom folders in preferences and every time Live scans Waves, it crashes. The whole application just disappears.

I'm stumped. Is there anyway I can get Waves to operate in this latest version of Live?

Thank you all!

P.S. My last version was 9.2.3 and I had no problems there.

Have you downloaded the latest Waves Central? I believe the current version is 1.2.1.5 (build 85943). You need to download the whole thing after some previous version of it that doesn't update itself. I run 9.7.1 and 9.7.2b1 in macOS 10.12 Sierra here without any issues with plenty of Waves plug-ins.

If you already have 1.2.1.5 and have run a fresh install with it, I'd suggest you remove everything Waves and re-install all plug-ins. You may also have some issues with Live preferences, but investigate Waves Central first.

Are you running 64-bit or 32-bit? Waves Central crashes 32-bit versions of Live, because Waves no longer officially supports 32-bit.

Waves tech support was able to send me one of the old Waves installers that got everything up and running again for me.

But the new version have all these juicy features like side-chaining. What 32bit plug-in could be worth foregoing that?

Cumulus by Loomer!!!

Honestly, although I have a good half dozen Waves plugins, the only one I couldn't live without is Renaissance Bass and maybe the C6 Multiband compressor. I find I get much more satisfying results from the equivalent IK Multimedia plugins, especially the vintage compressors.

The reality is shameful really, that I haven't upgraded to 64-bit just because reinstalling all my music software seems like a gigantic task I'd rather put off for another day in the far-flung future. As long as Ableton and Native Instruments continue to support 32-bit, I'll probably wait.

I'm running everything 32 bit....so shouldn't it all be working?

To each his/her own, but I can only deviate 100% from that. I couldn't dislike IKM's products more and I really tried in 2013. Won't look back because for me Waves have not only been working out great, but have re-molded my whole work process.

As for Compressors/Limiters, I have 24 different in my palette. As I see it you can't have too many.

Nope, it shouldn't. This is exactly the problem. Here is a quote from Waves Audio support email I received:
"Please note that Waves plugins and products are officially supported on 64 bit operating systems only as you can notice in our Supported Systems page. Also, Waves License Center is discontinued and replaced by Waves Central. You can delete the Waves License Center from your computer as it will not work."
So Waves plugins installed with Waves Central will now cause 32-bit versions of Live to crash (and a few other 32-bit DAWs I tried as well). When I contacted support, they eventually sent me a link to a legacy 32-bit installer that got everything working, but they made every attempt to convince me to upgrade to 64-bit first.

Get in touch with them and good luck.
