orchestral sounds in live

Post by songman » Fri Mar 17, 2017 12:57 pm

I am trying out live suite and was particularly interested in the quality of the orchestral samples. I must say I am totally disappointed. I have large parts of the Vienna libraries and in comparison live is just terrible. The Live samples sound harsh, you can hear rumbling sounds, you hear looping, ... . Am I doing something wrong or is this indeed the way they sound.

Yeah, while I don't think they're terrible, they don't have anything on other dedicated libraries like East West or Spitfire.

I used to use East West, but their sample engine was horrible for me - would drop notes/voicings, ugh! I'm a big fan of Spitfire - I use Albion One and one of their violin libraries (can't remember the name). They sound absolutely gorgeous.

I think those are the old Sonic Implants libraries. Orchestra libraries have evolved since then. If you have VSL they are superior to any bundled library for a specific DAW. The Samplitude line has the old Yellow Tools library which is inferior to any 3rd party library.
What in Live is more suited to people who don't want to invest in orchestra sounds and they are there if they need them. I think the Live Suite is the most over priced purchase when it comes to the sample libraries.

+1 on Spitfire, I have both Olafur Arnalds libraries and they're incredible.

The Live Suite orchestral stuff...it could use a refresh to compete against the hard core guys like Spitfire, East West, etc. As a selling point for Suite it falls flat but the same could be said for a lot of the stuff included in NI's Komplete Ultimate as well.

Thanks all for the replies which reassured me I was not doing anything wrong. It is a pity because there are so many good libraries available these days, maybe ableton should team up with one of those. I also agree with all that you said about suite being overpriced, the comparison with other libraries and NI's komplete also have some redundant stuff. I'm trying out suite but given what I have found so far I think standard is the way to go.

Cheers, Bob.

PS Must give Spitfire a go.
