Sampler issues

I have just started using sampler with some prepared piano samples. I am finding that with midi in the track its playing fine. But I cannot now go into sampler and hear the samples individually or edit them while doing that. Am I missing something?

Also I saved the preset for this sampler. However I didn't seem to get an option to name this. Now, whenever I set up a new file and drag sampler in - the prepared piano sampler comes in. Have I missed something again?

Hello. I have some (simple) questions about using the synth samples from ableton packs (Retro Synths and Beat Tools), and I dont/t know if I/m doing it right. I upload a synth sample in Sampler, select a small portion of it, but it still not sounding exactly like the preview. Further more, do I have to upload all the sounds corresponding to a scale in the Zone tab (C1, D1,etc) for it to transpose it and play it accordingly?(why are there different pitches for one sound) PS i want to play the sounds using a 5 octave keyboard.

From my experience (which is not extensive), you have to assign the sample over the whole range you want to play. However if you are just using one sample it might not sound great over the whole keyboard. Better to have a sample for every three notes or so which give s a better tone. Good luck
