The day Live became Useless - Hey Ableton yooho...help

Post by neomodo » Wed Sep 14, 2005 7:41 pm

So I have been having problems with latency - Live 5 - Mbox never had this problem before - I play my guitar and I hear the beginning of the sound when my pick has reached the end of a strum. No es bueno - in fact it sucks. Then today, with a deadline of yesterday - I'm trying to add 1 more track and get a mix finished and what happens?

Dropout - the sound just drops out comes back in drops back out, totally useless in other words. Imagine what a demagnetized cassette sounds like in and out in and out...

I simply can not work like this - did I do something to my settings or has Live begun to suck like most of the other digital audio applications out there - (referring to those intended for poor slobs like myself not Bizillion dollar TDM or HD Pro Tools systems....) It would be nice to have something in that caliber but if I can't even finish a simple stupid recording from beginning to end well I might as well become an Arrugula farmer.

help please...

I don't have a bit of a problem

I pretty much have the same computer as you do. I play guitar and there is no latency that I can hear at all. I have a Dell Dimension 9100 with 1GB RAM, 3.0 ghz processor (pentium 4). My sound card is a Delta 1010LT. I run my Line 6 XT Live into the sound card not the mixer, and arm the track, hit my Behrenger 1010 foot controller, Live counts off one bar and off I play with the metronome engaged and the clip records with no delay at all. I also use XP Home with SP2. Don't know where your latency is coming from other than Guitar Rig or something. Direct into the sound card or my mixer gives me no latency at all that I can hear. I can even record using the usb with no noticable latency. Good luck. I know this is no help, but I would not blame Ableton at this point.

well our systems are very different even if they are similar in some ways - Like I said I never had this problem before with Live and I have been using it sinde day 1... or maybe day 2...

Even when I plug directly into the Mbox - skip the mixer I am getting a little bit of drag - but my biggest concern now is the dropout - I can't get any work done. I can do my own compensation or play without monitoring - that's a nuisance - not a show stopper this dropout thing is totally new and it bites...

Agreed.

Have the tasks on the Tuning Tips page of www.musicxp.net been performed on this system ?

Also ensure power management has been disabled for devices connected to your USB ports.

Head to: Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> USB hub -> Properties -> Power Management -> .... If ticked, untick 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'.
By default in Windows XP this setting is Enabled and should definitely be disabled for USB audio interfaces.

Any improvements ?

Cheers

Best of luck.

And if there are any wireless connections going on, try turning them off.
