Hi everybody,
I guess some people are having troubles with this... I cannot seem to find a workaround, or maybe I'm just too stupid, so I'll ask if anyone has an idea for this.
I have recently started a new project with a friend - we have been using link to synchronize two laptops and it works like a charm.
We have already created some 6 tracks and would like to start seriously recording stuff.
The thing ist: how can we record what we are creating together? I mean - yes, I could record my parts and he could record his parts and the we could merge projects.
But is there a way to share the same project and record our stuff simultaneously? What we are doign right now won't work as a band recording sessions, where everybody stats throwing tracks on top of another (like first all together, the drums, the bass, then guitars, ect you know the drill...)
Ideally we would like to "share" a project where all of our tracks are recorded together so we can mix and master afterwards without having to pass on archives from one computer to the other.
I hope this meakes sense to you...
Any ideas?
Best,
Javier

If you go Splice, may I suggest you use one set file each and tell Splice these are not two projects. This way even if you work at the same time, possibly in the studio together, and keep saving you won't save over each other's version.
First time you can do this with a local version not in the Splice folder:
- download the project shared by the other without opening it (cancel in the modal window) if you have unsaved work in your local. It's a good idea if the sharer have already added their name to the set file. This for you to be able to tell which set is which.
- With the project downloaded to your Splice folder, inside "Collaborations", save your local set into this folder and add your name to it.
- Do a Collect All and Save and make sure external projects is checked.
- Archive the local project and make sure the Splice located project works as expected. If you want you can check with File Management that all files are maintained inside the project.
Always open only your named set on your machine to work on, unless to fetch returns or check something or when updating to latest versions.
At mixdowns you can fuse your sets, which is easy as they are in the same project folder. As you probably already know you have to fuse projects to the set with the proper returns in order for both of you to have them. Another alternative is to group all to audio effects rack as a preset, or to direct the out from the return to an audio track and move the effect chain to there. The latter should maintain automation. Then the return need to be manually added in the set lacking these.

Thanks so much, this is really valuable information! Will try in the next session and see if this could work for us.
I'm sure there's a group of people on Ableton tryin' to solve this issues as it's the next logical step after Link - wouldn't be suprised if they come up with something like Splice in the next iteration.
Dankeschön noch mal!
