push question - focus on one track play another

Post by luv » Sun Apr 30, 2017 8:49 pm

sorry yall for the newbie (?) question but i can't find an answer for this anywhere and it's been kinda the holy grail for me, not even sure i know how to describe it but:
is there a hack/workaround to change push's behavior so if i select another track to, say, change some fx, it doesn't stop the other one from playing? so if you focus/select one track you continue playing the first track without it being un-armed. has been driving me nuts when jamming with others.
many thanks !

I do not believe this is possible. Push seems to have been designed with the idea it would control a single track fully. It has been discussed to allow the encoders to switch between track and master allowing the play surface to control a track but the encoders to control the master section and effects but this is not possible either.

There may be a workaround I am not aware of but as it is vanilla I do not believe so.

You can lock push to a device for the display but you have to do so with a right-click of the mouse.

If you want your first track to stay armed you need to "hard" arm (rec arm is red instead of pink) it i.e hold REC and select the track. If you now select another track the previous one won't be unarmed.

nice this seems so easy, but having trouble making it work? when i hit the record button on push, it begins recording. i find when i have a track armed and press it again on push, it turns red from pink, but still switches when i select another track to change parameters.

Uncheck "select on launch" in the preferences.

thanks yall, but i still can't play a midi track on push while say an audio track is selected for tweaking. so annoying. unless i missed something. i heard there's a 3rd party hack that does it but that it's quite mysterious/complicated.

in user mode you can custom map anything to anywhere, and it wont lose focus. you could map a knob on track 3 and be turning it, while your looking at track 4 and turning a knob on track 4

The problem with user mode is that if you switch into it, all Push functionality is not at your disposal until you switch out of it.

You can't simultaneously do notes mode and user mode. Plus it doesn't offer a whole lot in terms of feedback.

that's why I use user mode exclusively . it eliminates all the problems of normal mode. but it takes a long time to learn it
