Merging Midi Clips?

Is it possible to merge the content of two midi clips? I need collect my various percussion instruments in to one single midi clip so that I can apply them all to a single instance of Battery 4.

Merge or combine?

You can combine two clips. Not sure about merging (as in superimposing one on top of the other.)

Perhaps you could output the MIDI of one into the other then use the MIDI Arrangement Overdub button to record one track's output to "merge" with the other....

The easiest way to go about this would just be to copy and paste your midi into eachother manually,however, depending on how complex your midi is, that could be difficult.

You could also put the two midi regions next to eachother, join them, and then manually shift the first midi melody over to the start of the first one.

Multiple ways to go about doing it! Hope that helps

Thank tayler1206 for those two really good suggestions. The copy and paste manually worked well although I can see where problems may occur with more complex midi data. Also there seems to be hit and miss at to the time at which the midi destination occurs (but the notes are correct) so no problem. The second method of consolidation the two clips gives such a lot of freedom to move things about before splitting the clip again.

Hi John, re: the apparent 'hit and miss' nature of pasting MIDI clips, pay attention to the region you're copying. Often I hit ctrl+A in a clip to select all the MIDI notes and then copy, but the region that gets selected begins with the first MIDI note in the clip, not the start of the clip. That's why often when you go to paste your notes it seems that they've been pasted in the wrong position. Hope that helps!

They need a function for this like the "Ctrl+J" consolidate which works on separate clips on the same track only Would be nice to just have them lined up on the timeline and just hit Ctrl+J and wala they are consolidated into one midi clip of coarse you would want to use a duplicate track with the same Midi instruments assigned so you don't end up with ??? I'd imagine this is on the list of requested features for the next update but maybe everyone should request it to make sure seems this would be second nature to a clip based piece of software and a Midi workflow. Mixing down multiple Midi tracks to a Audio track to consolidate doesn't produce the desired result when you want Midi clips consolidated although You could turn your Audio back into Midi but it seems like a big workaround to a working multiple track consolidate function. I'll be continuing to manually copy and paste until someone cares an awful lot cuz that's how things change is it not
