importing files
importing files
How do I import an audio file such as an mp3 file that is a vocal part recorded by somebody else and sent to me via email? Once it is sent to me how do I access the file and how do I insert it into my song? Thanks Jeff

Is this just placeholder vocals?magicjeff wrote:How do I import an audio file such as an mp3 file that is a vocal part recorded by somebody else and sent to me via email? Once it is sent to me how do I access the file and how do I insert it into my song? Thanks Jeff
If not, ask that they send you lossless files in formats such as Wav, Aiff, Flac*, Alac* or similar and not MP3. MP3 is no good for production. While lossless files are bigger you can place them in a file service, such a dropbox or similar and let them just mail you the link.
If they use Live for recording, they can share via a service such as Splice.
Once you got the file just drop it into an audio slot or into an empty mixer space of the Live window to create a new audio track. Make sure it is saved to the project file with Collect All and Save.
*Actually never tried these formats in Live so a conversion may be needed first. They do take less space, so can be of use for that reason.

Re: importing files
drag and drop to your track.
just make sure it's an audio track. it won't work on a MIDI track.

Wait I need to start at the beginning. How do I get the downloaded audio file that I received and import it into the song? What is the step by step procedure for that? thanks,Jeff
Re: importing files
Open Live
Create one or more tracks as needed for the audiofiles
open your explorer (win) or your filebrowser (Mac)
Navigate to your files
Drag them into Live
Then save and collect them (file>Save and collect)
