MacAdviceWanted: 1) External editor, 2) Use with Pro Tools

Post by MacRaQ » Wed Jun 18, 2003 1:05 pm

1. What is a decent (inexpensive!) sound editor/wave editor to use with Ableton on OS 9?

2. Does anyone use Ableton & Pro Tools? What is a decent approach? Render out then sequence in Pro Tools or do you go the other way around and record in Pro Tools then import and sequence in Ableton? I am curious of other people's experiences. I don't really want to move to Cubase or Logic.

Thanks in advance people.

1) A good and cheap simple audio editor is FeltTip's Sound Studio http://www.felttip.com I use it with Live often.

2) The next version (6.1) of Protools will finally support Rewire (after digidesign finally realized that there silly refusal to support other peoples protocols was killing them). Can you believe that its taken them this long???? They really think they are the only game in town. Of course you will have to switch to OS X for 6.1.

In the meanwhile, exporting audio files then opening them in Protools is probably the way to go.

I use Sound Studio also -- quite a handy tool.

If only it multitracked like Peak! *sigh*

peak does not multitrack... i wish it did! but then it would be called deck.

all in all, WE NEED more audio editors on the mac that are multi track. (like protools, but with out the need for a soundcard or usb dongle to be plugged in)

OR i could use live for this purpose if the guys at abelton would raise the bar on the sample editing that can be done in LIVE.
