Yeah works fine here.
Are you sure you don't have your computer keyboard activated as a note input keyboard? If so, the Z and X keys will shift octaves of the "typed notes" instead of Z undoing stuff. There will be several key commands unavailable because the keys are used to play your synths!
At least that's the way it is on the mac.
Keyboard note input is a new feature in L5 and I believe it was on by default when I first installed L5. Make sure you switch it off from the top pull down menu and your computer's keyboard will return to it's normal state. Then save your template.
There is also a key command to activate/deactivate keyboard note input for quick jamming and then returning to your key commands. Pretty slick. I like this new feature. Laid down some basslines in the park with no midi controller. Sweet.
Of course only one velocity is recorded when pressing the keys but it's great in a pinch.
Not only is your issue resolved, but enjoy your new free one octave keyboard!

Hi djshiva,
could you please provide some more detail:
- does the edit menu show something behind undo?
- is undo greyed out?
- do you have a file 'undo.cfg' next to you prefrences file
while Live is running
(c:\documents and settings\<USER>\application data\Ableton\Live<VERSION>\Preferences)
Best regards, Friedemann

i will check the suggestions. as far as the undo menu, it always says "undo parameter something or other, but it's always the same and it never does naything. i will go home and check the other stuff, but i specifically turned off the keyboard dealie, so i don't think it's that.
will log on later with answers to the other questions...

Hi djshiva,
there is one known issue that could apply in you case:
some plugins change their own parameters, i.e. to implement
LFOs, very frequently. The host (Live) can not find out
whether these changes are made by the user or automatically
by the plugin.
The other changes in the undo-history
are then burried under these parameter changes.
This feels like a broken history, while in fact it is working
but you never get back to the other changes.
If you search this forum you will probably find
some of the plugins mentioned that show this
behavior.

ok, i may not be understanding this correctly, but i do know that the parameters on basic live functions are not working. that is really how i figured out that things were not kosher...

ahem...fixed.
once again, solution is PEBCAK:
problem
existed
between
chair
and
keyboard.
*note to self* turn off the little keyboard thingy and SAVE THE FRIGGIN TEMPLATE. duh.
