Hi,
edit: Title change to better describe feature request. Old title "Alternative Mute functionality for midi and sends"
1 I am trying to mute midi output on my midi tracks.
As there seems to be no way to mute midi I am using a midi scale plugin to do the muting with no notes on the grid. Is there an easier way? In any case what I am looking for is a mute for the midi notes before they go into my softsynth. This way any note releases are not muted and the mute is clean and free on pops and clicks, which is not the case when muting the output (muting track activator).
2 I would like to mute the input to my sends i.e. mute Send A (for example a dub delay) at its input. I want the fx to ring out. I do not want to mute the output of the return.
I guess I am asking for the mute functionality to be assigned to whatever I want. Not just track output mute.
Is this likely to be possible?
fyi I am using Stray's Native Control Arsenal for Push1 and have posted the same question on his forum.
I will also post this fr on centrecode

Programmable functionality for push stop /mute /solo button
OK I'll try and give some more detailed info.
#2 is easily solved I guess. I already route my return tracks to audio tracks with my effects anyway. I can use the return track mute to mute the input to the audio track effects.
#1 seems more complicated. I know if using only a midi track I can mute the midi, then route the midi to another track hosting the softsynth. I do not want to utilise multiple tracks for this in my live set.
My live set has the following: 8x tracks for instruments (4x drum racks, 4x softsynths). There tracks are each routed to an audio track so I can use dummy clips on them (only an eq8 and a one knob dj filter). I then have 8 other tracks (main submix, fx submix, 6x fx tracks (routed from 6x returns). I hide the returns as I don't need to see them. I can view all 24 tracks easily (2014 macbook pro retina) and everything is clean and simple.
How can achieve #1 (muting midi output) without using any extra tracks or groups?
Another way of looking at this is I want to mute midi input to my softsynths so sorry if I'm being confusing by mentioning midi output - I'm talking about the same thing.
i.e. Midi notes > scale midi fx (with no notes in it - toggle power on scale midi fx which MUTES midi notes > softsynth.
There seems to be built in Track mute functionality in most controller scripts and most controllers seem to utilise a row of buttons for track mute. I only want to assign the mute button to switch off my scale midi fx and therefore mute my midi before it gets to the softsynth, hence the title of the thread - alternative mute functionality.

Re: Alternative Mute functionality for midi and sends
If the primary goal is to avoid the pops and clicks, here are some things to try.
For some reason, Live will pop/click when turning virtual switches off/on, especially with automation. However, it doesn't do that if you turn virtual knobs.
Rather than muting the MIDI track, how about turning the volume knob on the softsynth all the way down?
For sends, try turning the send knob all the way down?
I've had situations where I was using effects and wanted to turn them on or off during a track (especially things like echo or long reverb added to the end of a clip). I found using automation to turn the effect on (and then off) created an audible click, but using automation to turn the mix knob on the effect to 100% dry did not.

Programmable functionality for push stop /mute /solo button
Hi Richie, thanks for reply.
The primary goal is not to remove the clicks it is to mute midi and not audio.
Yes I did think of what you suggest too and have used that solution previously. The clicks do indeed disappear if using volume automation. This had let me rethink my process. I suppose this could work by adding an utility and toggling the output 0dB to minus infinity. But I then can't utilise the default functionality of track mute built into controller scripts. I would need to assign the buttons to mute midi and they would be stuck doing that as I would not be able to reuse the button using controller track select .
I suppose the primary goal is to utilise programmable functionality on push and/or any controller buttons
eg on lc xl the bottom row of buttons can be used (by default) for mute / solo / record arm. If I use midi mapping there seems to be no way of using the three functions as there is only one controller number for the bottom row buttons. My proposed usage is midi mute / track cue / and something else I haven't decided on - maybe my fx input mute. Likewise on push1 I want to use stop / mute / solo buttons for the same. I don't want to use the stop button there as I use one scene for each song to stop clips using 1/4 note quantisation (each song has 8 scenes so I always have a clip stop on push grid anywhere I navigate in my set.
Perhaps the request should be named "Alternative programmable functionality for push stop / mute / solo buttons and launch control / mute / solo / record arm buttons "?
I think I'm having difficulty describing my request. LOL. There are so many talented people on here I was sure someone must have come up with a way to do this already. I don't trust M4L stability so I've given up on Isotonic scripts - this is my distrust of M4L. I know many people are happy with it but I can't be convinced to use it live. Perhaps L10 integration is better but I'd rather not even go there.
This leaves one alternative - Strays nativeKontrol Arsenal scripts which don't use M4L. It seems trivial for Ableton to allow this option but they haven't. Stray is my only hope I think?
It does seem strange that I could do this 30 years ago with an Alesis MMT8 but not now in 2018?

Re: Programmable functionality for push stop /mute /solo button
I am looking for exactly the same thing! I too want to turn the scale device on and off as a midi mute on several tracks. Did you find an answer? I presume it is not possible. I am trying to use the User Mode on Push too but for now it is messy.
Ableton should really have a native option for muting midi on midi tracks...
