Noob's problem: can't hear the playback of my track.

Post by siftkoong » Sat Jan 27, 2018 2:29 pm

I just got into music production. I was just trying random stuff in the program and got a little arrangement. Then I accidentally hit some boops or bleeps on my MIDI keyboard. If I change the track and press a key then I can still hear it but when I press play in the arrangement view, I can't hear anything. Nothing was mute or solo or -inf.db. All of this happen in the arrangement view with 2 MIDI tracks with a suck progression on it. I tried to save the project file and open it again and lol it didn't work. I was using Launch Key 49 and accidentally pressed the white square button that was glowing red. Just want to find a solution in case this happens in the future.

Press the back to arrangement button, it’s the little triangle above the track list in arrange view. Does that work?

If your MIDI track is set in "IN" in the I/O settings, then you will be receiving the input from your external keyboard only and not from the notes your recorded on the track. If you want to hear the notes in the track, switch this to Auto or OFF.

Update: Issue solved thanks guys - worked out that you need to use the simpler to convert samples to instrument tracks.

[SOLVED] I've managed to get playback working by only having one device connected at a time. However I have a different question - is there a way to use a Roland JD-Xi to control Samples, not just Instruments in Ableton? I've got it working for the former but not the latter. Thank you !
