No Ableton 10 Mavericks Support?

Post by meltboro » Tue Feb 06, 2018 10:40 pm

Seriously? Why is there no support for Mavericks?

I'm going to go ahead and stop uneducated 'just upgrade' response here. Mid 2012 MBP is the last moddable, self-repairable, Macbook Pro. It is arguably one of the most (if not the most) reliable models that exists. It comes with i7 option and is upgradeable to 16gbs of ram w/ SSD. Upgraded, it is on par with many brand new laptops today, however due to restrictions put in place by Apple, every OSX version after mavericks runs notably slower, and more unreliably on non-retina models leaving many using Mavericks for the foreseeable future

So again, what gives Ableton? As a programmer myself, I know for a fact you can create and export every feature of this app compatibly with Mavericks. So why take the lazy way out and use OS restrictive functions, or export only for OS versions after Mavericks?

So developers should just endlessly support outdated and unsupported systems forever?

One thing people need to get to grips with is if you want to buy into the Apple eco system you have to be prepared to continuously roll with the updates or be happy to stop completely at a certain point.

I certainly wouldn't be bitching here because Windows XP support was not available in the latest version. Just so happens Apple OS becomes obsolete almost the moment a new one is released forcing people to have to update. It's a "like it or leave it" ecosystem and at some point you will be forced to upgrade both software + hardware.

Troll somewhere else asshole, its a simple consideration. I assure you it is not too much to ask in this case.

For everyone else: the standard plist edit does work to run the app in Mavericks. I would not trust it for live use or switch licensing until we get an official response from ableton that the system version was arbitrary, and not function based (or extensive testing has been done on it).

Right click on the app -> Show Package contents
open Contents/info.plist in a text editor
Find:<key>LSMinimumSystemVersion</key>
Change the line under it to: <string>10.9.5</string>
Save
open terminal
type (with a space after the command): touch
drag your app into terminal and hit enter

I registered for technical support for an $800 program, and yes you are clearly an uneducated asshole. Are there no moderators here either?

By all means please point me to them, if they side with a trolling thread derailler over a legitimate support thread, I'll be very surprised. Now please, if you have nothing to actually contribute to this thread - GO AWAY

This is just not true. We're using 2012 and 2015 15" models in the studio with El Capitan and there are no speed issues whatsoever.

Mavericks is crap as far as I'm concerned and has the known CoreAudio bug. Instead aspire for macOS 10.12, the new "Snow Leopard", that fixes the bug. RME rewarded me with updated faster drivers too.

You are simply incorrect. (and yet another thread derailer, what is wrong with this forum?)

Here is a geekbench el capitan (left) and mavericks (right) on a non-retina machine. There is a substantial difference.

You know there'sCommunity guidelines here right?
In theory, after 3 warns you're banned. But after such an amazing arrival on the forum I'm feeling really tempted to screw up the rules myself and say goodbye to you right now. Wtf dude??

I am not going to suggest you to update.

Instead: switch to windows.

Ableton can't offer support for a OS (Mavericks) which Apple itself no longer supports.

Hope you enjoy Apple business model,

I guess when I have such great rolemodels like jestermgee breaking the rules as my first response(see below), berating and derailling my thread, it seems the other users didnt really respect these rules at all.

"Trolling, spamming, flaming, bullying, personal attacks, and “gang-up” threads are not welcome on these forums. If you’ve said your piece, don’t keep posting it in the hope of reaching a new audience."

So I guess the rules only apply to some users here then?

Sorry but I can't see where Jestermgee broke the rules.
Actually he took time to detail the reason why this is as it is. My answer would have been more incomplete "apple dropped support for OS before 10.11.6, and so ableton did so".
