Browsing Q: Back to previous location?

Post by Citizen » Tue Jan 09, 2018 10:13 pm

Some thing that really annoys me about browsing with Push, is that if I wish to load multiple samples, each time that I press 'Browse, Push takes me back to the 1st level of the browsing hierarchy, instead of where I was *last* browsing.

Is this something that is adjustable in preferences, or with some sort of command? :?:

(I just end up using the mouse and the browser, which kinda defeats the purpose of Push in the first place  )

Also, is there a way of loading *multiple*samples via Push in one command?

You're hitting on something that is really bothering me with Push workflow, i'm trying really hard but still cannot "click" with it: the breadcrumb. F.e. on my trusty old RM1x every menu-option has a fixed amount of levels you can "go in" by clicking multiple times on the button. This is like a breadcrumb on a website or software with multiple nested levels of navigation. By clicking the exit button you go up 1 level in your breadcrumb, and by clicking shift-exit you jump to "home" directly.

It seems with Push the idea is that you have multiple ways of reaching certain screens, and that with every button-click you should be able to directly jump to another screen. This takes up a lot of visual processing and brainpower: where exactly am I, and how can i get to another screen?

The "mind map" of a fixed multi-level structure with fixed up/down buttons really helps a lot in not having to think about where you are and how to go "up/down" in the structure of less/more detail.

So, from my side: +1

cheers, Olaf

Yeah I wish that could be improved (along with the ability to name VST parameters already).

I don't use Push at all as a browser because it takes me a lot longer to fiddle around in the browser than it does to just find what I need with the mouse. Sometimes to swap a sound I might but I have never liked the browser, one of the reasons I stopped creating VST integration Libraries for browsing on Push, just never used them.

What if you duplicate the sample to the next spot and then hit browse?

Edit: but no, I think browsing is a nice novelty, but having the feature makes people Want to use it but in many cases it isn't necessarily the most effective way of working. It is convenient if you are literally away from view of the monitor, otherwise it might generally be best to dive in with more of a plan in mind. I think loading things works best on interfaces with touch or when things are quickly accessible via buttons (like how on many keyboard you can quickly jump to the Brass or Piano categories from labeled buttons). Clyphx has a cool feature which allows you to load devices at the press of a button... conveniently, wherever the preset of this device is rooted is where the 'browser' would likely jump to if you decided to hit hot swap on that newly loaded device.

Still doesn't seem like it remembers your previous location... Push 2 has been out for over 4 years. Ugh.
