Roland Boutique setup in Live

Post by daviec75 » Mon Mar 12, 2018 11:02 pm

I'm pretty new to using external synths and trying to figure out the best way to save my JU-06 as an external instrument in Live, so that I can quickly drop that instrument into a set and start playing with Push. I've tried two ways, neither of which quite does what I want...

1. Use an External Instrument in a rack and add the JU-06 software editor (https://ju-06remote.jimdo.com) on another lane in the same rack. I can then map the editor's fader to macros so that they work with Push's rotary controllers. When I save this and reload it, everything is remembered and still works. BUT if I record fader moves on the JU-06 itself (ie the hardware) these are recorded as different automation to adjustments made on Push or in the software editor.

2. Don't use the software editor and just MIDI map the rack's macros to the JU-06 hardware faders. This means fader/rotary moves on Push and the JU-06 all record to the same automation. BUT if I save the device and reload it then all macro mappings are forgotten. Also Push's rotaries seem to have massive latency when played 'live' (like half a second). Weirdly the latency is gone when the same automation is played back.

Also, can anyone who's used the JU-06 editor advise whether its possible to use it to save a patch an Ableton set? I'm reluctant to overwrite the factory patches with my own sounds. I know there's a web midi patch librarian out there but also a bit nervous about saving all my patches to a third party server than might not be there one day.

Thanks for any help!
