Hi,
I've used FL studio for about 4 years now as my DAW and am now interested in Ableton. So I wanted to ask you guys, what helped you to change from another DAW to Ableton? Any tips? Tutorials that were golden? Anything that would ease the culture shock from changing from platform to another. Thanks in advance.
Anyone else moved from FL Studio to Ableton?

I used Fl from version 2 until version 6 at which time I was switching between both Live and Fl. I started using Live exclusively when it reached version 4. I think what helped me the most was the info view.
That was a different time. Back then videos on how to use live were scarce so I used info view, read the manual, and asked questions on here when stuck.
Live came to me pretty easy, It was all drag and drop with effects and instruments and seemed like it was made by musicians (which it was). I used to imagine the effects view as a guitarists pedal board. It was so intuitive that I really didn't need videos on how to use live, I could have used videos on how to get an ear for eq and compression though.
If I was starting out now I would watch videos that explain all the functions of the interface before watching any 'how to create a specific genera' video's'.
Or just dive in, make a song and look up videos on functions when you get stuck.
My needs now have outgrown Live's simple features and I only use it to open up old projects or when Im using synths within a static tempo. I would really like to just use live, but the development is geared towards what is happening now in popular music rather than what is happening in ALL music and what may happen in the future.

I've thought about changing to Ableton because it really seems like it suits my needs much better than FL. I've been procrastinating because it seems so frustrating to basically learn everything you know again in different environment. Although I know the transition isn't going to be as big deal or huge amount of work as I now think it is. I just need to dive in like you said.
I have Lite already (came with my audio interface) but it lacks many features I'd like to have, so basically I have opened it like two times and closed it soon after and then went back to FL.. I'm trying Suite for free for 30 days and if I'm lucky maybe I stumble upon some discount for the full version during the time.

Re: Anyone else moved from FL Studio to Ableton?
I had bought FL Studio 12 but when I saw everything Ableton can do I made the switch and I would do it all over again. First everything was so "weird" compared to FL but then now FL seems weird
You will love it if you take the time to study the "how to do this and that" videos. Now I couldn't go back to FL...

So true, at first it was frustrating but now that I've got to know it a little better everything goes with much less effort compared to FL, bought the Standard and am happy with it so far.lys-k-music wrote:I had bought FL Studio 12 but when I saw everything Ableton can do I made the switch and I would do it all over again. Not me. I use them both since they are entirely different. Working with midi FL seems superior and part of that is the work space. With audio files there is nothing like Live. Live's upgrade pricing is ridiculous where no upgrade pricing with FL.
