Using Ableton LINK to add percussion to existing song?

Post by Fresh! » Sun May 20, 2018 8:22 pm

Here's my situation and what i'm trying to accomplish:

I have recorded my cousin's song using abelton Live.

The song has 6 tracks:

1 Vocal
2 Acoustic guitar
3 Electric Guitar
4 Piano
5 Shaker
6 Conga

When done recording, everything sounds great and is properly aligned along the timeline. (arrangement view)

The tracks are automatically marked as 'warped, but i un-warp them as a matter of habit, as we don't intend to change the tempo.
(in this case with the exception of track 6)

What i'm trying to accomplish:

I'd like to add some additional congas or other percussion tracks using the Drumjam App on an Ipad, which links to Ableton using the 'LINk' feature, which synchronizes the tempos.

I understand the concept of what i'm trying to accomplish, but i'm still unable to accomplish it.

On the last track we recorded, the conga track, the beat is clear and precise.

I have tried leaving that one track as 'warped'. There's a yellow marker at the beginning of the track and Ableton seems to recognize each beat thereafter with a little grey arrow marker above each one, but then the Drumjam app doesn't seem to recognize the proper beats, as the tempo doesn't seem to be properly conveyed.

I then tried adding warp markers where the little grey arrows are above the beats, but whenever i do, it seems to change the tempo of the entire track and it looses tempo with the rest of the song.
(the track itself gets considerably shorter on the timeline)

I've tried marking the conga track as 'master' under the warp button, but that doesn't seem to help.

How do i setup this track so that it remains unchanged in the view of the other tracks which are unwarped, yet communicates its beats perfectly to drumjam App on the Ipad?

I'm not exactly sure if that's clear to anyone, hopefully someone out there reading this will understand and be able to guide me through the proper steps to accomplish this.

Thanks in advance,
Fresh
