5.06beta: Live Slaved = No Track Delay (broken?)

Post by robtronik » Wed Sep 21, 2005 6:05 am

Is this how it is supposed to work if Live is slaved? No track Delay or MIDI Sync Delay (in preferences) adjustments?

I would think that Live should be able to set track delay times that offset the master clock that is supplied by an external source (in my case, an Electribe MX-1.

Thanks.

I'm not answering your question; I'm just wondering why do peolpe always try to make Live the slave to an Electribe. Why not do it the other way around. After all, Live is the one with playing back chunks of audio.

well, I was doing it because of this reason (a bug I found with Live's MIDI clock to external devices like the electribe when setting loops with a MIDI keyboard):

http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26764

so, I was thinking maybe if I slaved Live to the electribe the MIDI timing, when setting loops in Live, would be more steady and rock solid.

FYI.

Yes..but the electribe is the one with the stable clock

We are not sure what exactly do you mean. In Live's MIDI preferences you can setup a delay for MIDI input devices too. Do you mean that it does not work what ever the value is you entered?

Alex

that is correct. Once I slave Live to an external clock supplied by the Electribe (in this case) the track delay and MIDI device delay (found in preferences) have no effect.

I verified this by alternating between having Live slaved and not, and when it wasn't then the track delay settings worked, but when it was slaved they had no effect on the clip loops playing vs. the incoming audio from the external device (electribe).

Does this make sense?

Thanks for looking into this.

Here too,

i have got a clavia micromodular slaved to Live
in fact when i tried to setup the midi latency compensation, it doesn't have effect on my micromodular
When i record an audio loop from my micro, i always have a 15ms silent gap
from the start of the clip even if i shift up or down the midi latency compensation

HK

dell 8600C, centrino 1.5, 512Mo, m-audio quattro, edirol pcr80, clavia micromodular
