Will upgrading from Live 8 to 10 help CPU drainage? HELP

Post by Ibalazs » Wed Aug 01, 2018 6:24 pm

My CPU drainage and glitching is at an all time high. I froze and bounced midi to audio tracks (also froze all audio tracks), turned off Hi quality on samples and plugins, and I can't go without a few minutes in Live without the whole thing glitching out, its SO frustrating! I mainly only use stock plugins and Ozone. My current specs are:

MacBook Pro (2012)
Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
Memory: 8 GB
Ableton Live 8.4.2
High Sierra 10.13.6

I read some good things about SSD's so thats definitely my next move Hardware-wise. But my main question is, will upgrading to the current Live 10 help with processing and overall smoothness of the program? Any other suggestions? Please and thanks.

My guess is a no. I think you have other issues to fix first.

You need to try 10 later though. Run the demo for 30 days when you've fixed your current issues in 8.

Could it be that some of your plug-in versions don't play well with 8? Have you looked them over?
Make some music!

Yeah, I would venture to say it probably won't make a very big difference.

Figuring out your current problem with your hardware, drivers, Live settings, etc is going to be your biggest gain - apart from upgrading your machine or parts of it, of course.

Also, if you would like some pointers of what can boost your performance potentially, you should tell us a bit more info on the projects that are "glitching out":

- are you running Live in 64 bit or 32 bit mode?
- how many tracks are you running?
- what sound card are you using?
- what drivers?
- what is the audio buffer setting?
- how many instances of Ozone are you running in one project?
- if you take Ozone out of the project, do you still have problems?

This will give us an idea where your biggest bottle neck may be
