can i sequence note changes and trigger volume changes?

Live 10 :: macOS Mojave :: reviving my interest in music production / composition / performance after ~12 years of "day job"

Big picture: I have one trigger pad through a MIDI controller (specifically a kick trigger at my foot). I would like to play a bass line where the note (i.e., chord) changes are sequenced (i.e., I've composed them ahead of time) but the volume is performed with the trigger.

For example, say have a boring MIDI clip going C-G-C-G on quarter notes attached to a synth bass with sustain at 100% (so the note plays while it sees MIDI note:on). [ Does this screenshot show up? Image ]

Is it possible to connect the kick trigger to some kind of volume automation (or attack/decay/sustain/release) so that the sequenced note plays when I kick the trigger?

To be sure, I do not want to trigger each note in a sequence with one pad like this fella. I just want to turn the pre-sequenced notes on and off with MIDI on/off messages.

I think the Velocity device can do those things you are describing.

Note that MIDI Velocity is a one time message sent with MIDI Note On, you can't change it during a long note.

You may want to automate or MIDI assign the volume in the instrument for long notes.
