Midi clip view note input by mouse.

How do you get Live to play the note input by mouse in a midi clip (clip view mouse input)?

eg if there is an instrument on the track, I want to hear the note I am inputting by mouse click on, say C3, then if I imagine a note I think is a nice next note, I can click and hear it immediately or if wrong drag it vertically until it is in the right position, all the while hearing it as it enters its new pitch positions.

As it is at the moment, I have to play the clip in order to hear new the note.

I know it can be set up to do this, as I've seen it done in a PML tutorial.

I've done a search for 'preferences' in the manual, and none of the references say anything about it.
