Live 8 Rewire works into Logic Pro X but not Live 9

Post by Rich Weller » Wed Dec 26, 2018 8:40 pm

Hi,

I've tried to search for this in the existing topics but can't see anything.

I've dusted off a copy of Logic Pro X I bought a while back and am trying to rewire Live 9 into it so that Logic is the host. I've selected Rewire Behaviour in Logics Audio preferences and chosen 'Live Mode'. I'm starting Logic first and then Live 9 but Live isn't activating 'rewire' on start up.

I get this message.

'Live has detected another active ReWire master application. No ReWire slave applications will be available for use with Live unless you quit the current ReWire master application and restart live'

Weirdly if I start up Logic Pro X first and then open Live 8 it ReWires into Logic no problem once I've set up a Aux channel.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. It's not the end of the world, I can bounce stems out of Ableton but ... need to try and work it out and fix it now :-)

Thanks

Rich

try this

https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... ire#logicx

Ableton wrote:In Logic X the ReWire behavior has changed: in order to use Live as ReWire Device, it is first necessary to enable the ReWire engine in Logic X before launching Live

and this *might* be your issue
Ableton wrote:Please also note that, being Logic X exclusively available as a 64-bit application, only a 64-bit Live version can be ReWired to it

Thank you. Reviewed the tips here and tried them all but still getting the same issue.

.... but then found a view other tips on line which suggested searching in the Applications Support folders for Propellerhead / ReWire and deleting old versions of '32 bit' Ableton ReWire. Worked only once I had deleted in all Library locations.

huh. *bookmark*

well done!

now you can get back to enjoying your music making!

when i first got Live (free copy of Live 4 with an MAudio Axiom 25) i would rewire it to Cubase. it was the only way i used it up to version 7. after that, i started using it almost exclusively - one DAW to rule them all!

the truth is, for some reason i still feel as though vocal takes sound better in Logic and Cubase. i know that's probably a placebo... but comping is real.

i'm making some major living space changes... i've been without proper [comfortable] access to my DAW for way too long. i plan on setting up in a new spot that's more conducive to recording vocals and playing my bass without having to move more than a few inches and/or by just standing up. i'm on the fence about whether to re-wire Live to Cubase or Logic when i get fired back up.. both of those, and Live, are at least one rev out of date. i'm not sure which to lean on and update.

what makes you re-wire vs. using Live or Logic exclusively?

I have owned Live since 2010, I added Logic in 2017. I use Rewire to have access to things that only exist in Live.

For example, Sampler can load .nki files but Logic's EXS-24 can't. Operator is a more sophisticated FM synth (4-op) than either EFM-1 or RetroSynth (2-op).

The downside of Rewire is that third party plugins, Max4Live or any control surfaces are disabled which limits what can be done inside Live (doh).

i can't recall, can you add audio effects to a rewire channel?

most of the plugins that i use are Waves... so, fortunately there's AU copies

maybe that makes the case for upgrading Logic from 9 to X??
it's certainly the most affordable of the 3.

i feel as though the best host is arguable, but the best slave is Live. i used to separate it out fairly simply... use Live as slave for all MIDI and use the master [Cubase] for audio.
