Question how to split keyboards in MIDI MAP MODE:

Post by Stepper » Sat Dec 22, 2018 3:47 pm

Hi!
Question(5.) how to split keyboards in MIDI MAP MODE:
I use a couple of Yamaha keyboards (EZ-220, EW-410) connected to Ableton Live (Standard), Win7, and i need a clue how to split those in MIDI MAP MODE.

1. I can use use the keyboards in Ableton each one separately in other matters, the "input type" and "output type" works as Keyboard and 2Keyboard.

2. When I activate (ON) MIDI MAP MODE and want for example keyboard EZ-220 key, C3 as a trigger for a clip the result are 1/C3. Thats ok the keybord and Ableton work it out.

3. If I want to connect my other keyboard in a other track or in same it dont alter the chanel, its the same chanel, 1/C3. So when i play C3 its settle whish keyboard i use, it start.

4. I would expect it to say 2/C3, but it dont.

5. How do I alter the chanel for the second keyboard, is it possible?

6. I have even get deep in resolving the Yamaha drivers behavior. Both together and each one separately. (Yamaha Steinberg driver and Yamaha USBMIDI driver(WDM)), Yamaha Steinberg recognize only EW-410, Yamaha USB MIDI driver recognize only EZ-220.

7. Both drivers split keyboards in the backgroundprocess as above(1.)

Kindly Regards

They don't work anything out. The keyboard sends MIDI, Live listens, that's it.

The same thing, The keyboard sends on MIDI channel 1, Live listens.
You need to switch the MIDI channel on the keyboard itself. Grab the Owner's Manuals, MIDI Basics- and MIDI Reference documents from the Yamaha website and figure it out.

The Yamaha Steinberg driver is an audio driver (only available for the EW-410) I assume, Yamaha offers the same version of the USB-MIDI driver for both instruments. So that should recognize both keyboards. You need to figure out how to set up the keyboards and the driver so they both adress different PORTS of the driver. Good luck.

Thanks chrk for your great remarks and advice!

I have read the manuals for my keyboards and around the web, there is lot of hightech, but I am not able to switch the midi channels on those modells unfortunately its looked and sending the mainstream to channel 1.
