Start Stop messages problem when startin Live 10

Post by debojé » Sat Dec 29, 2018 7:12 pm

Hello everybody. Just got ableton 10 live and first contact with this software. Looks and works quite well. But: one thing I really have problems with is, when I have a loop anywhere in the arrangement (not at the very beginning), the start stop command (Space key) works as usual for ableton but if I control my external sequencer hardware device with this command it continues where it stoped before when pressing the space key again for starting new.
Is there a way to send a real and only start message when doing this?
Thank you for any helpful advise.
regards

What's your hardware? And what kind of midi messages are you using to communicate with it? With which kind if interface?

MIDI start/stop messages are tied to MIDI clock, so a MIDI start gets sent when the MIDI master clock, usually configured to be the DAW - i.e. Live, is told to play and a MIDI stop when the master clock device is told to stop playing.

There is also a MIDI Song Pointer Position (SPP) command which can be sent along with MIDI clock start, and if the sequencer understands SPP the sequencer should start playback at the bar/beat count the DAW is at when you hit “play”. Whether SPP works or not depends on both the DAW sending the command and the sequencer understanding it - and not all do.

It might be useful if you say what your sequencer is.
