Copying Wav Clip over from other project but isn't the same?

Post by drum infected » Mon Jan 14, 2019 9:34 am

Hello Fellow Producers,

I've ran into a issue and i'm not sure if it's just me or if this is something ableton does, but any help is greatly appreciated.

I've brought in a wav clip into ableton and warped it and then renamed it and cropped the clip so it would make a new version of the wav and later on saved that project file.

Next day I wanted to move that wav clip I made into a new project, so I went to the directory in ableton and dragged the file over to a new audio track and I see that the wav clip is stretched out (the file is also unwarped) and if I click on warp after it doesn't warp it how it was last in the previous project file.

I thought after I edited the wav clip it would remake that clip into a new edited wav file that I made (and unwarped)? I DID notice that if I dragged the whole track the wav clip was on from the old project file, that the wav clip would work correctly as I wanted it, but i'm unsure why I have to do it that way? Is there a way for me to get clips from other project files without dragging the whole track it was on and just drag the edited clip instead? If so if anyone could please tell me what I'm doing wrong that would be awesome. I'm coming back to ableton after a few months not using it so thanks for the help.

most operations on clips in Arrange view are non-destructive. to create a new sample, you can consolidate a selection:

That's what i was looking for thanks so much! I remember I doing it a lot in the past and thought doing the "crop clip" would do what consolidating did. Good to know about non-destructive operations as well thanks for that tidbit as well much appreciated.
