I must confess that I very much dislike the way live tends to warp long samples, such as tracks. It is very often off tempo, even with very simple 4x4 beats. While I am confident that in future releases of live5, this feature will be improved, I would really like some way to disable this feature and manually warp everything now.
BUT, before you all start flaming me, I have the option for "Auto-Warp Long Samples" set to Off in my preferences. Nonetheless, live leaps into action every time, inserting anywhere from 50-200 [incorrectly placed] warp markers. So, every time, I must delete them all, reset the tempo, reset the start point, and go through many extra steps before I can even start warping. I have been able to replicate this in OSX under live 5.0.1 and live 5.0.2b7.
Live 5 & Auto-Warp
Hi,
Sad that even with the option set to OFF Live autowarps, still.... Must be a bug.
As a workaround, to avoid many many steps to delete warp markers etc, why don't you use the right clic "warp straight from here" option ?

Hi folks,
if you are not referring to the problem that Auto-Warp sometimes does not set the first warp-marker correct, please provide us with more information (so in your case with samples) about it.
If the samples to demonstrate the misbehavior are to big to send by mail we will find another way.
regards,
Alex

Alex,
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm sending you an email with a few samples that demonstrate this.
Also, I should slightly amend my above post. I was working mostly with DJ Funk samples this morning, and I realized later that most of the tracks are probably too shart (ie, 30-40 seconds) to qualify as "long". When I drop longer tracks into my liveset, they are indeed unwarped by default (although, I swear, this doesn't always happen, but I can't find a track right now to replicate this with
). Anyways, the problem mostly happens when you click "warp" on such tracks, and the above behavior happens.
Basically, I'd really like live to not do so much work when I hit the warp button for long tracks.... the autowarp thing shouldn't just apply when a track is first dropped into a set, but also when warp mode is activated.
