Disable Automation Playback?

Post by mmarkoe » Wed Mar 06, 2019 8:59 pm

Hi - I did a search for this all over the web and could only find posts from a few years ago.

I'm wondering if there's a way to simply disable automation playback within a track or clip temporarily, similar to other DAW's.

Perhaps this is included in the Beta version or I just can't seem to find it. There is plenty of information related to automation RECORDING, but not specifically for this seemingly simple function. The manual seems to address recording of automation only, and not playback.

I suppose if this isn't an included feature, it wouldnt be too labor intensive to just add a utility plugin, automate that and then enable/disable the plugin. But that would only address utility parameters, not say, if I wanted to A/B a track with an automated filter sweep or pitch rise in a simpler, etc.

If a topic already exists on this, my apologies. Thank you for any information.

All you need to do is move a control that has automation and that will override the automation for that control. To go back to automation, press the “enable automation” button.

Thanks, @jestermgee - that's helpful. Too bad there isn't just a toggle on/off button. Wonder what folks without physical controllers do?

You don't need a controller to re-enable automation. It is the button with the arrow pointing left in the transport bar at the top between the automation arm button and the capture midi button. It becomes red the moment you override an automation envelope.

Hi
Was this ever resolved? I mean I want to simply export a bunch of stems without any automation...in the other DAWs I use, you simply press 1 button. Are you saying you still need to go to each control etc?
Surely Not??

And surely Im missing something here but there is only individual tracks...which is every single track in the project or selected which is the sum? I want to export the stems of selected tracks

Yeah, overriding the automation on a per-parameter basis really isn't a substitute for a simple 'disable automation playback' option, but if there is such an option, I'm not aware of it.
