Metronome to cue out minus track audio?

Post by obyvatel » Sat Mar 23, 2019 7:48 pm

Hi guys

I'm using a babyface ai with ableton, trying to figure out how to send my metronome to my headphones
and leave my live and recorded audio playing on the speakers. Anybody know how I might get this done?

thanks!

Simply set the Cue Out to different outputs from the Master Out.

But the audio interface has to have more than one stereo output, and allow switching the headphone output to those different channels.

If the headphone is locked to 1/2, then maybe you can switch all the rest to the 3/4 outputs.

Yes, it has more than one stereo output.

The master is set to 1/2
The cue is set to 3/4

Yet I still get all the audio coming through the headphones along with the metro.

I don't own a RME Babyface, I tried to read its manual, but it is long, has way too specific stuff like " A push on the encoder activates Dim for the Main Out defined in TotalMix FX (default: Analog 1/2)." and refers to another software called TotalMix.

It does seem possible to do what you want, but you have to read its manual.

Live can only pick the inputs and outputs the audio interface offers it, Live doesn't know what 1/2 or 3/4 are.

Are you sure its an RME config issue?

It seems like in ableton there should be some way of separating the metronome and audio track streams during playback (or live).

Has anybody ever done this? Or is metronome invariably mixed into whatever track in playing?

Actually, I figured it out, with some encouragement by you, pottering.
Yes, there was an adjustment I needed to make in TotalMix.

thanks!!!!!!
