Macro Sample Selector: mapping improperly

Post by murcalumis » Tue Mar 26, 2019 4:15 pm

With Macro Map Mode on it appears all drum racks with a sampler dropped in various notes are mapped correctly: macro, path, and name columns correspond to the correct samples/chains. The path corresponds to the correct samples 0-127(or less) and the name is always the Sample Selector. I assume the "name" means the macro will scroll through the mapped sample selection path.

context: I built kick, snare, tom, hi-hat, cymbal, and percussion racks using Sampler, each with multiple samples and mapping to macros for chain selection (like this: The Last Drum Rack You'll Ever Have to Make - Ableton Live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TO3z8LtP5U). I am using this with electronic drums and an MPD32. I chose this method out of necessity to speed up finding what I wanted for each drum trigger.

Most of the racks work as intended, as in the video^, I can scroll through samples and hit drum pads to hear the sample change because the selector is working as intended. However, sometimes the macros change the sample Filter/Global tab (usually filter envelope and decay, depends on what macros I use), not the sample selection.

Any idea why sometimes the macro knob does not turn (new MPD32) to change the selector, but changes the Filter/Global instead when those are not mapped to begin with? If the only path is the Sample Selector, why would Filter/Global be mapped for control (even when turned off)?

1. Am I missing buried or hidden mapping or...?

2. Is there a way to reset the sample audio so they are clean/pure/original and not ruined by changes to filters and decay etc.? I ruined a few racks and can't go back, partly my fault for not saving them unprocessed. I may have to just make the racks again, but looking for a way around this issue as well.

3. Slightly unrelated, do you see an advantage or disadvantage of using a Sampler vs Instrument racks for this method?

Thanks
