Hello everyone,
To briefly introduce myself, I'm a non-performing songwriter based in London and have written about 100 songs over the years, most of which I've had professionally arranged and produced as demos in a proper recording studio with professional singers and, occasionally, session musicians. However, the most recent producer I'd been working with moved to Dubai a few years ago (but is now based in Scotland) and, over Christmas of 2018, I decided to see if I could do it all myself with some basic home recording. Almost accidentally, I ended up using Ableton Live 10 and, as you can probably imagine, have been on a steep learning curve over the past few months trying to work out how to put a song together.
I'm linking here to a new song I've recorded in Ableton Live called 'How Much Love', which is a song with a female vocal, and I thought it might be interesting for anyone who is considering the use of Flux's Ircam Trax v3 for voice gender transformation. I couldn't find any online examples myself when I was thinking of buying it. I'm a man (!) and I'll leave it to you to decide whether Trax has managed to produce a convincing female vocal from my voice on the track.
I would like to stress that I do not regard myself in any way as an arranger, producer, sound engineer, musician or, especially, singer so please listen with that in mind. I just like to write songs. If anyone knows any good female singers who would like to have a crack at recording this track – or is even one themselves – please feel free.
Finally, I should say that Ircam Trax did not load for me in Ableton Live. I originally thought it was because of an outdated graphics card on my computer but I subsequently discovered (with the assistance of Flux support) that it works fine in FL Studio so I've been exporting my vocals to FL Studio, converting them into "female" then exporting back into Ableton Live in order to mix the track. I'd be interested to know if anyone else here has successfully opened Trax in Ableton Live.
Anyway, without further ado, here is the link to How Much Love:

Would love to read any comments.

Ah, for reasons which aren't entirely clear, the link I provided doesn't seem to work. Try this:

Not bad, but the vocals sound muddy and are getting lost in the background.

Hi nDJw,
Thanks for the comment. I'm sure you're right and the mix could be much improved. Trying to get the vocal/backing track balance right is tricky for a beginner like myself. Hope that the essence of the song came through.
