Hardware mixer for Ableton
Hardware mixer for Ableton
Hi all,
i'm looking for a hardware mixer for Ableton.
The goal would be to have a something like a dj-desk but then for some VST's.
Example:
Five Reaktor instruments on five miditracks in Ableton and with the hardware mixer I would be able to control the volume of the five tracks at the same time but also would be able to control five parameters for each track at the same time.
Problem with Launch Control XL is that you can only select one track at the time for controlling parameters and even with Channel Strip from Isotonik it's not possible to have five parameters at once, you still have to switch beween views. Push 2 is really nice but gives the same problem that you can select only one track at the time. Using Map 8 is a workaround but gets quickly complicated.
I'm looking for something like a Behringer UFX1604 regarding knobs and faders but that one is not sold anymore.
Is there something here
https://www.thomann.de/gr/small_mixers.html
that I could use for what I want to do?

Re: Hardware mixer for Ableton
I'm a bit confused, are you looking for a mixer or a controller ? You are listing two different things,
the Launchcontrol XL is a midi control device which sends control signals to ableton, and all the audio processing is done digitally inside ableton.
The Behringer mixer: all the audio processing is done in the mixer and then encoded as a two channel A->D and sent to the computer. It's not multi-track AD/DA , as far as I know those Behringers have two channels of AD/DA so that the mix can be sent to the computer without an additional interface.
So with your talk of controlling track volume, Reaktor VST parameters, and such ... it seems like you are talking about a controller, not a mixer
The Thomann items you linked are not gonna control Reaktor. They are analog mixers!

Re: Hardware mixer for Ableton
Controlling the volume is easy: use groups. Controlling parameters, nope.
A hardware mixer is NOT what you want.
Re: Hardware mixer for Ableton
i'm searching for mixer, midicontrollers control only one track at the time what is in my case a problem
maybe I can find a way with instruments racks, macro, map 8, maschine, multimap,
2 of these maybe also a solution: https://www.thomann.de/gb/allen_heath_xone_k2.htm
a mixer seemed easier

You could use a Behringer X32 or Midas M32. Connect your computer to the mixer via USB. These mixers support bi-directional 32 channels on USB.GuidoPa wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 1:27 pmi'm searching for mixer, midicontrollers control only one track at the time what is in my case a problem

Then, route your various Ableton Instruments to input channels on the mixer.
This will only affect audio output, and will not affect the channel levels internally to Ableton.

External mixer is nice if you want to have control over audio volume, EQ or send levels. It will not work for parameters inside Live unless it has MIDI CC capabilities like some DJ mixers have.
I'm not sure if I get this but what is the problem of hard mapping by hand (using MIDI Map in Ableton) all knobs and faders on LaunchControl XL to desired parameters in your Live set?
