Ableton video exports askew, diagonal and distorted

Post by tomleo » Tue Jul 14, 2015 4:16 am

Hey all,

Every time I try and export video in any format with any settings Ableton exports it skewed diagonally and sort of doubled up sideways and distorted. It is completely unusable for clients to view the video with my audio on top of it. Very frustrating and there doesn't seem to be a solution anywhere on the internets.

Im using the latest version of Ableton with a fresh install and even a fresh install of my entire Mac OS (had the same issue before reinstalling too)

Anyone had a similar experience or know anything else I could try?

Thanks heaps!

My solution, in the company where I've worked for 10 years, is to use lowres reference copies in Live, export the audio as with any production and place it in a proper video editor. There are even free ones. Everyone I know in the business works this way.

The very idea to run professional grade video material trough Live is crazy IMHO.
Make some music!

Anyone ever figure out why the renders from Ableton become diagonal and distorted?
I'm thinking it has something to do with the source footage.
Some videos render fine, with warping and cuts, others stay diagonal.
I've tried various codes, frame rates, resolutions, even warp modes.

Would love to know if anyone has figured it out.

Seems some videos are either not the right size or not the right codec.
After futzing around with things I finally was able to get AdobeMediaEncoder to re-export some footage,
then warp that to time in Live and render from Live without the diagonal distortion.

Tried re-rendering the original video using quicktime but that didn't solve it.
Tried with handbrake and that sorted it out.
Weird.
Something's going on here. I'm going to email support
