Ahh, what better place to discuss the woodsy folk music of Bob Dylan than the warped electronicated realm of the Ableton forum?

Anyone else see the new Scorsese film last night? Thoughts? Feelings?

I have a few thoughts of my own but first I must know if anyone else saw it. I must know if I was the only one who chose to watch TV last night instead of automating Borg.

yea I saw it, Wasnt sure if I really wanted to sit infront of the box for two hours but I felt obliged really. I must say the best bit for me was seeing clips of some great oldies performing - and I don't mean Dylan.
Actually I can't say that Dylan really interested me much. I didn't find him engaging or warm and so I sort of shut off while he was speaking and then woke up when clips of leadbelly or many others whos names I forget came on. For that it was fun

I watched it...

I thought they did a good job providing an overview of the history and showing his development as an artist. Plus the live clips were cool.

I someday plan to do some kinda piece using his "It's Allright Ma I'm Only Bleeding."

Amazing songwriter.

One unanswered question: Does Bob use Live?

i thought it was really good. the best bit was the punters from the north of england calling him for using electric guitars 'dylan was a bostad in der second alf'.

Yeah, the live clips were great. Looking back, I'd have to say the Odetta stole the show. Her clip was amazing.

All in all I really liked the film. A fresh + truthful perspective on the 1960s music scene is always welcome.

The thing that was most striking to me was impetus behind Dylan's artistic quest. How he became facinated with Woody Guthry and had to seek him out. I don't know, I think about this sometimes, but, things used to be hard to find. When I was growing up I discovered punk rock, but it was still something that was hard to find in my little town in Florida in the mid + late eighties. It was something you had to discover and then uncover. There was a mystery in the quest, and that made it ever more enticing + enriching.

The world isn't like that anymore. All this conectivity it amazing and great, but it takes that element away from "musical expeditionaries". With a Google search, a half hour on the internet, and an illegal song download or two, Dylan may not have become facinated with Woody at all.

I dunno. It doesn't mean shit, just a thought.

Thanks Aural Bob. Anyhow, for anybody who missed it, Channel 13 in NYC with air the 2nd half of it tonight at 9PM, and then on Saturday they'll show both halfs again in one shot.

Worth checking out.

Nice flick. A little dragging in some parts but, I loved the footage of the concerts where people where booing and chearing at the same time afterwards and they would rush off stage into the car.

Yep Odetta was awesome. I also think Joan Baez is a cool lady even if she doesn't like smashing up hotel rooms...
