Can I use my old projects after reinstalling Ableton?

Post by piiino » Tue Oct 22, 2019 12:13 pm

Hi :D,

so right now I have Ableton live lite and I accidentally deleted a few files in the windows folder. Now Ableton wants me to authorize again and it does not work properly.
I wanted to get ableton suite anyway the next days and so I get a new license and have to reinstall the program new. Regardless of the old one.

Now my question:
Will my current projects still be on the PC when I delete live lite? And if I save them externally or they stay on the pc anyway, can I open them again and continue to work on them in Suite? Or are the live lite project files, after deinstalling live lite, useless?

Thanks in advance

Might be a good time to get a handle on how projects are managed and where you place data on your system because you may want to start thinking about managing and backing up some of your important data.

Ableton Live is completely separate from your content. Projects, samples, plugins will all remain even after Live has been uninstalled or updated in the same way if you were to uninstall Microsoft Office, your documents wouldn't simply vanish.

You should really know where your files reside and have a backup solution in place so that you need not worry about this kind of thing and you can easily test your theory without worry.

And i'd recommend staying out of the Windows folder completely as it doesn't sound like you have the know how to be poking around in there.
