real time velocity changing

Post by MThorrez » Tue Oct 22, 2019 2:14 pm

Hi there,

Is there a way to control velocity live? Not after recording, but live, when playing?
I want to be able to play my Kontakt library samples with my midi keyboard, but with a velocity that I choose.
For example. I have a piano set up in my Kontakt. I want to be able to play that piano as soft as possible, but the velocity is alway to hard. For another Kontakt instance, I need hard velocity .. Is there a way to change velocity in real time, with a modulation knob or slider or something?

I hope this is kinda clear :)

Thanks a lot!

There is a velocity plugin, and you could map a control to it, but I don’t think it acts on input. A place to start.

What's the name of that plugin?

Ok, Solved

There's a midi effect that does it

As you discovered already there's the 'Velocity' midi effect which can pretty much control everything, it can even add a bit of randomness to make things less static.

And if that isn't enough there's always Max for Live; the amount of control you can apply over midi is pretty extensive.
Yes thank you !!

One more question though .. Is it possible to add kind of a limit velocity? I mean, when you use this midi effect, velocity is put to a certain value, but is it possible to stay underneath a limited velocity? I means for example play piano 'with feeling', so with changing velocity, but underneath a limit velocity? Let me know if you don't get what I mean :)

Thanks.
