If you're strictly speaking about M4L, then the M4L Building Tools pack is an essential one.
I highly encourage doing the built-in Max tutorials first though.

But really if you're new to this stuff, it's almost conter-productive to not start first with the Max tutorials (they're in the Max doc - cmd+shift+R)
