Issue Scanning External-HD Places in Live 10.1.5?

Post by TrierMusic » Thu Dec 05, 2019 12:06 pm

Hi all,

I just upgraded to 10, and I am having some issue with Ableton scanning Places at inopportune times and slowing down my whole computer (2015 macbook pro). Also, sometimes often after a while of this endless scanning, I'll get the "external disk not ejected properly" message (even when I haven't touched it!)

I read the help file, and it said to avoid having big folders on an external hard drive.

So, I tried to rearrange my big sample folders into smaller folders. Then I started up Ableton and removed those big folders from Places (because they weren't there anymore).

Ableton is still taking a veeerrryy long time to scan the Places folder.

What can I do? Would buying a solid-state external hard drive help?

This is no help to you, but I have Live 10.1.5 and all my samples on an internal SSD and Places is forever turning round. It doesn't affect performance but it also never stops. I think Live is pointlessly scanning and a different ext HDD won't help.

Could be that you have stuff on Dropbox or similar cloud storage in your Places?
